33RD TOYOTA STAR MAKER WINNER ANNOUNCED!! .... BOB CORBETT. When BOB CORBETT chose his songs to perform at this year’s Toyota Star Maker he clearly got it right. He was announced the 33rd winner of the prestigious competition and will release one of the performed songs as his first single as the Toyota Star Maker winner. The single LUCKY COUNTRY sends a message that unites with our emotions and consciousness in a positive way. It wakes us up to what is really central to us. Lucky Country will make you feel good.

Lucky Country is the title track from his fourth album of the same name recorded with his Roo Grass Band – Dave Carter, Sue Carson, Robbie Long and Ngariki. As an accomplished solo performer, Bob has received nine 1233 ABC Music Awards including Best Country Song (two times), the APRA and ABC Music Publishing Songwriter Recognition Award, Broadcasters Choice and the 1233 Tour support prize. In 2009 he received the $10,000 Contemporary Music Touring Program Grant from the Australian Government and six Top 10 nominations at the 2011 Australian Songwriters Awards. He recently received three nominations in the recent Victorian and National Country Music Awards.

Of Lucky Country, Toyota Star Maker winner Bob Corbett says “Lucky Country is a celebration of the things we take for granted here in Australia. I’ve been hearing a lot of criticism lately and I felt it was time to share my ‘glass half full’ view of this country of opportunity. When you hear the song I’m sure you will agree that we still live in a Lucky Country”.

Bob Corbett wrote Lucky Country on Boxing Day after spending a Christmas listening to people complaining about the state of Australia. Their comments really bugged him. He needed to write down the fact that you wont find a place like this anywhere else in the world. Bob wrote straight from the heart a fun-filled reminder of why we are so lucky. Enjoy!

Former lead guitarist/fiddler/mandolinist, and a founding member of The Bona Fide Travellers, Ray Chaber debuts his latest combo "Homesick Ray's Triple Trouble". An all Kiwi affair, with the notable inclusion of The Bona Fide Travellers' bassist, Mike "The Colonel" Parker, and NZ man of mystery "Jivin' James on the skins perform "BON TON ROULET" along with guest vocalist, Snow Townsend. Home sick Ray's son, another Kiwi in exile, lends a hand on rhythm guitar. This track is available on the newly re-leased Bona Fide Travellers' very first album, Captain Creole. Michael Berbery of PROSEASONS ENTERTAINMENT shot the clip...

Howdy again, LEE FORSTER CD LAUNCH - Friday March 23. Lee and his band last played for the Country Music Guild in 2009 so it’s great to have him back again. This is his ONLY show in Melbourne, don’t miss it. For more information go to www.northwestfm.org/countrymusicguild

Here is Lee’s Press Release: “Longnecks and Rednecks” is the title to my latest album. To some it will be self explanatory, however, to others, they will say “what the”? Stuie French has produced all of my previous recordings. Including “Keep Safe on the Track” which had numerous Top Five singles on it as well as my number two hit “The Good Tones”. Now, not only has Stuie produced my new album we have made it a duet album.

Stuie and I are traditionalists when it comes to country music. We love the old stuff, especially Merle Haggard, George Jones, Buck Owens and Slim Dusty. So I was chuffed when he said yes to putting together an album of old songs. However we decided on finding some of our favourite drinking party songs. It was fun finding them, writing a couple ourselves and then recording them with some of the best players in Australia.

So “Longnecks and Rednecks” is simple. Longnecks for the drinking and rednecks are some of these great old singers who had some real redneck songs back when. We would admit there is a bit of Redneck in us both and we don’t mind a longneck or two either.

After the great responses from other drinking song releases like “Drinkin Bone”, “Fire in the Bar” and “Drink up and be Somebody”, I felt an album of these songs would be awesome to record. “Barroom Buddies” is the first single from this Brand New album. Barroom Buddies, sums up most Aussie fellas. They always have a wingman and enjoy each other’s company. It is sure to be played at many parties, BBQs and anywhere Aussies like to get together for amusing shindigs.

I hope you get the chance to listen to “Longnecks and Rednecks” and the first single “ Barroom Buddies”, which is being released this month on Country Radio Stations.

CRAIG GILES BAND - Friday March 30

Hello again,

THE CARTWHEELS

We have some big shows coming up at the Pascoe Vale RSL over the next few weeks, starting with The Cartwheels gig this Friday night (March 16th).

It’s been several years since they played for us so here is an update. They were judged to be the hit of last year’s Wandong Country Music Festival. Expect another great night of country music.

Wendy and Dave’s previous band “The Sparnetts” won the 2000 Golden Guitar in Tamworth in the “Vocal Group or Duo of the Year” category for a song that Wendy wrote called “Rollin’ Along”. They released 2 albums with that line up.

The Cartwheels have also released 2 CDs. I have attached an MP3 sampler of The Cartwheel’s music (including “Rollin’ Along”) for those who never had the pleasure of hearing them or seeing the band perform.

Guitarist Jeff Mercer will also be a part of the band. He played guitar in Slim Dusty’s band and was also a member of Rob Luckey’s band “The Lucky Bastards”.

LEE FORSTER BAND

The following week (Friday March 23) will be the launch of Lee Forster’s 3rd CD “Longneck’s and Rednecks” which is a duets album. More about that with music samples in next week’s email.

As always, keep up to date with what’s happening at The Guild via our website
