The Semaphore Music Festival presents South Australian Indigenous and non-Indigenous Contemporary Music acts considered outstanding by industry professional standards in an ideal historic seaside village setting.

Located in the Western Suburbs only 20 minutes from the CBD and the airport, the Semaphore Music Festival gives audiences and bands access to an authentic cultural experience that deepens our appreciation of the vibrant talent performing in the SA contemporary music sector today. The Semaphore Music Festival has built a reputation promoting singer songwriters on the crest of their careers, breaking down attitudes towards alt country/folk/ roots/blues and original live contemporary music.

Held annually (since 2005) over the October Labour Day Long Weekend, the Semaphore Music Festival is fashioned on music festivals like Tamworth. Over the last eight years the SMF has developed a niche market with its own flavour, texture, and character reflecting the diversity in the independent live music community. It is scheduled to coincide with school holidays encouraging music lovers from regional communities and interstate to travel to Adelaide especially for this event.

The SMF is a pivotal event on the South Australian and Australian music festival calendar. It is recognised nationally by musicians and music fans alike because it actively promotes original songwriters to the broader community. Singer songwriters develop their skills through master classes, APRA sponsored panel discussions, workshops, forums and performances giving established artists the opportunity to share their creative process with emerging artists and fans.

Forums including The Adelaide Ukulele Appreciation Society workshop give the audience and artists an interactive experience and the opportunity to explore different types of instruments. The Semaphore Music Festival includes Music Instrument Makers Exhibition, Luthiers’ Panel, Record Fair, Guitar Workshops, and Buskers stages.
