While largely inspired by the American songbook, its traditions and its champions, Melbourne singer/songwriter Sean McMahon is just as likely to find inspiration cruising up the Calder, the Hume, or the South Gippsland Hwy as on Hwy 61. In fact his native Victoria was the subject of the concept album Welcome To Gippsland. (which legendary Australian songsmith Mick Thomas included in his top ten all time records) He’s a true believer in the song itself, who’s momentum solely rides on each and every song, as it forms somewhere in a realm of make believe, between real life experience and desire. Across 5 albums to date, he has honed a unique style and voice all his own. His poetic and melodic style of songwriting is loaded lyrical beauty, colouring confessional narratives and vivivd story telling that explores and exploits themes we may all know well, however, its his ability to craft a song, the way he strings the words together and punctuates a line in perfect rhythm while dancing a melody across 3 chords that set him apart. On October 6 Sean will be joined by a killer band featuring Matt Green on guitar, Cal Walker on bass and Liam O'leary on drums, playing a whole 2 sets of new material, some from the back catalogue and some favourite covers.
