Terry McCarthy plays solo and with his band The Terry McCarthy Special. He also plays and sings in the duo Furlan and Husky with Marcel Borrack, The Mcgillacuddy Brothers with Malachi Doyle, and plays steel guitar in the instrumental outfit Schwienhund.
The combination of McCarthy's storytelling and the bands easy grooves are just the thing for a Weekend afternoon with a few beers or a Friday night after work.
Part Country band, part Rock band with Reggae features. Funk-Country perhaps? Influences vary from Willie Nelson, The Stones, Dylan and as I said Reggae odysseys which create a relaxing and danceable vibe. Combined with this is the warmth, wit and tenderness of one of Melbourne's most underrated songwriters. Stories of high fun and romance, of relationship ups and downs, songs about his musical heroes, McCarthy creates his own unique mythology which demands repeated listenings.
