Coal Miner’s Daughter pays homage to legendary singer Loretta Lynn with look-alike songstress, Amber Joy Poulton, shining the spotlight on one of Country’s most beloved performers.
Amber is a multi-awarded singer-songwriter with eight Top 20 Country hits under her belt and says:
I am thrilled to be bringing the songs and stories of an inspirational industry pioneer to the stage in Ballarat. Loretta is a superstar who rose from humble beginnings to be recognised as the First Queen of Country Music. She was married at 15 with 4 children at 19 and a grandmother at 29. Her first hit, “Honky Tonk Girl”, was recorded when she was 25 and led to an invitation from the Grand Ole Opry, where she played for 17 weeks straight coming to the attention of her idol, Patsy Cline, and their close friendship is beautifully portrayed in Coal Miner’s Daughter. The chemistry between Loretta and Conway Twitty was cause for speculation until his passing in 1993 and two of their best duets leave little to the imagination - Lead Me On and After The Fire Is Gone. They maintained a strong professional relationship and recorded 11 albums together, with five #1 hits from 12 singles on the Billboard charts.
Coal Miner’s Daughter also features ‘friends’ Lizzie Moore as Patsy Cline and Denis Surmon as Conway Twitty, accompanied by The Holy Men in an evening of mega-hits - Coal Miner’s Daughter, Don’t Come Home A’Drinkin’ With Lovin’ On Your Mind, You Ain’t Woman Enough To Take My Man, I Fall To Pieces, Crazy, Silver Threads and Golden Needles, Walkin’ After Midnight, You’re Lookin’ At Country, One’s On The Way, Stand By Your Man, After The Fire Is Gone and more.
Based in Brisbane, Lizzie Moore (Patsy Cline) is an accomplished musical theatre actress who has taken her solo show to London and appeared Off-Broadway in both theatre and cabaret productions. She has provided lead and backing vocals for numerous recordings and live acts, and toured her shows ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS and COOL BRITANNIA throughout Australia.
Denis Surmon aka “The Preacher” revels in his role as DJ Sleepydog, Nashville’s top radio announcer and narrator for Coal Miner’s Daughter. His talents are truly revealed when performing as Conway Twitty with Amber in Loretta Lynn mode. He has the natural ability to bring to life one of country music’s finest voices. “The Preacher” is the recipient of the 2010 SA Blues & Roots Best Blues Bass Guitarist Award and has shared the stage with John Schumann (Redgum), Neil Murray, Shane Howard, Rob Hirst, Big Jay McNeely, Lachy Doley, James Blundell, David Blight (Cold Chisel), Amber Joy Poulton and more.
Don’t miss this electrifying musical tribute to Loretta Lynn and friends.
