After a sold out performance in 2016, six-time CMAA Golden Guitar Award winner, Australian favourite, Melinda Schneider returns to Laycock Street Theatre on Sunday April 9 with her stunning show, “Melinda Does Doris… Again: The Movie Songs”.

This nostalgic celebration includes such timeless hits as “Just Blew In From The Windy City” from the 1953 film Calamity Jane, “Pillow Talk” from the 1959 film of the same name, “There Once Was A Man” from the 1957 film The Pajama Game, “Tea For Two” from the 1950 movie of the same name and “The Very Thought Of You” from the 1950 film Young Man With A Horn… just to name a few.

‘The wonderful Doris Day turns 93 on 3rd April, 2017, so I just had to do something to celebrate! Recording my new album has inspired me so much and those classic movies and the songs that came from them will never die. I just love performing them.’

Melinda’s love affair with Doris began when, in childhood, Melinda laid eyes on Calamity Jane, Doris Day’s 1953 film tour de force and was smitten by all she saw.  In 2011, Melinda put her country music recording career on pause for a moment to indulge in her passion for Doris Day.  This passion resulted in the release of her shimmering tribute album ‘Melinda Does Doris – A Tribute To Doris Day’, which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Jazz and Blues Chart, remaining there for a total of 9 weeks.

In October 2016, Melinda released her second Doris Day inspired tribute album titled “Melinda Does Doris… Again: The Movie Songs” which debuted on the Australian ARIA Jazz Charts at #2.

“She was such a huge talent” she enthuses now, “a triple threat as they say – she could sing, dance and act. I thought then she was the best of everything a woman can be and when I grew up I wanted to be just like her.

For over two decades, Melinda Schneider has become one of Australia’s most sublime singers and popular live performers.  With 11 albums under her belt, she has earned two Gold selling records and won numerous awards, including six County Music of Australia Golden Guitars and APRA Song Of The Year. In 2010, Melinda dazzled with her dexterity and stunned audiences on Channel Seven’s Dancing With The Stars.

Then, with the release of ‘Melinda Does Doris – A Tribute To Doris Day’, came the move to produce a live stage show titled ‘DORIS, Doris Day – So Much More That The Girl Next Door’ which performed to sell out seasons at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre and Sydney Lyric Theatre and ended with a sell-out reprise performance at the prestigious Sydney Opera House in April 2012.

It not only has Doris’s seal of approval (Melinda sent Doris the script) but that of fans, old and new, through metropolitan and now regional areas with a concert version of the show.

“I’ve had so much fun touring around Australia over the past five years singing these songs. There are so many people who just adore Doris, which is no surprise to me, I’m one of them! Everyone has their own favourite tune or film, Doris actually recorded over 600 songs and starred in 39 movie hits, so this second album and show feels like a natural progression.”

Melinda Does Doris… Again - The Movie Songs continues Melinda Schneider’s outstanding, heartfelt homage to the wonderful Doris Day.
