Be sure to catch Lady Antebellum in your capital city later this year during their "Own The Night" world tour. Details are also listed in ItsCountry's gig guide. Lady Antebellum Composed of Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott must have genes to account for their success; that plus some social networking. Scott is the daughter of country music artist Linda Davis and Kelley's brother is pop and country artist Josh Kelley. It's ironic, though, that Kelley who twice didn't make the cut at American Idol performed on the program's results show in 2010 as part of Lady Antebellum, already a chart-topping group at the time.

Kelley talked his classmate Haywood to move to Nashville in 2006 so they could become songwriters. Scott spotted Kelley on MySpace and wound up joining him and Haywood to form Lady Antebellum in the same year. Finding a name for the group was just as serendipitous. The trio was taking photographs of pre-Civil War homes which are referred to as “antebellum” homes when one of them suggested it as a name for their group.

Starting out with performances in local clubs, Lady Antebellum performed on a Jim Brickman single which made it to the Billboard adult contemporary charts. Their solo single released in 2008 climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts while the album hit No. 1 on the Top Country Albums charts. In 2009, the RIAA certified the album as Platinum for selling over 1 million copies in the United States.

More recently, Lady Antebellum has recorded hits that placed high on the Billboard Hot Country Songs, Hot 100 and Hot Adult Contemporary charts in 2009 and 2010. Their album “Hello World” made No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums charts before being certified Platinum by the RIAA. The group has gone on tour and performed at special events like the 2010 World Series where they sang the national anthem and the 44th Annual Country Music Awards. The award-winning groups Own the Night 2012 world tour wrapped up its North American circuit and will see them perform before sell-out crowds in Europe, as well as Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in Australia. They have had to add an extra night at the Opera House because of overwhelming demand.

Awards have come aplenty for Lady Antebellum. Starting with a CMA New Artist of the Year award and the Top New Duo or Group award from the Academy of Country Music in 2008, the group has been nominated over and over for Grammy Awards, winning five at the 53rd Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year among others in 2009. In 2010, the CMA awarded the Single of the Year Award to Lady Antebellum for the second consecutive year – the first time it has ever done so in its history. This was followed by the Top Vocal Group award at the 2012 ACM Awards.
