My preference is for Aussie singers to sound like Aussies.

It should be possible to sing Country songs, even those that were first popularised in America, without regurgitating an assumed Yank accent.

And if it is possible to do this for Country songs then it should also be done for pop songs and TV jingles.

It most definitely should happen for the Australian National Anthem being delivered at major events by famous performers.

A little effort will help to preserve those few remaining little details that stamp us as Australians.

Hi Rob,

I agree, maybe we should also be writing more Australian songs to sing to.
That way we continue to use topics relative to places, names, and Aussie things, and gain creditability in our own right, internationally.
Generally most musicians tend not to be encouraged to play originals live, unless financially backed by the corporate record companies and distributors, with mass sales and commercial radio airplay saturation.
And then along comes the Americanised "twang".
Money spent with returns expected, or paid back at the musician's risk and expense.
Otherwise we are playing the aired covers, with lesser risk of losing bums on seats at the gigs.
Safe...???
I know we are trying to offer something a little different.
Just need the continued support of the masses, or maybe a hit!! You never know.....

Rob. :D:D

I have noticed that australian singers often sing with american accents but maybe that is because they are trying to break into the US market? I agree with streety that we need more home content. If you are singing an american tune then you would usually copy a style similar to the original.
