LAURA COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL 2011
The inaugural annual two day ’LAURA COUNTRY’ Music Festival will be held on the weekend of 30th and 31st
July, at Laura in the Southern Flinders Ranges Region of South Australia with the aim of upgrading to Major Event status over the next six years.
Main objectives of this event are to promote Country Music in the area and to expose local artists/musicians to their peers, through which they will gain experience to further their careers in Country Music, and to raise funds for community projects.
The Saturday afternoon ’Come and Try’ Talent Quest is designed to introduce artists and audience to all categories of Country Music, from jazz, folksy bluegrass, traditional, to modern rock. With the backing from a professional Country Music band, Murray Mac and True Grit, an opportunity will be created for all aspiring artists from all age groups to show off their talents in an atmosphere not normally available in regional areas.
The session will enable the artists to communicate, swap experiences with one another, bringing together their parents, relations, friends and other interested people in a social environment..The artists will also be able to mingle with their peers, consequently learning from the experience, which will enhance their careers.
The ‘Talent Quest’ will be conducted in accordance with SA Council for Country Music Incorporated guidelines.
The Workshop, Concert-cabaret, compered by Dave Prior, on Saturday night and the Open House on Sunday will give all attending the event opportunities to watch/listen to some top quality artists from interstate, South Australia and surrounding Districts: these events create opportunities for local up and coming artists to watch and learn from their peers.
The ‘Breakfast With Angela’ - Angela Easson - on Sunday morning is another opportunity for all attending to mingle and listen to one of South Australia’s up and coming artists.
The Sunday morning Workshop, titled “How to Succeed in the Country Music Industry”, will be headed by our interstate artists, Camille, Stuie and Dwayne. Our young and not so young artists will benefit from these artists in the areas of aspects of vocal, musicianship, presentation on stage, entertainment values, how to promote oneself, and hints on how to succeed in the industry.
All of the weekend activities will be held under cover in the grounds of Laura Memorial Civic Centre with food and bar facilities available.
This event is a unique opportunity to fill a gap in the SA Country Music yearly program by developing a major Country Music event in the Southern Flinders Ranges Region; widespread interest, support and enthusiasm indicate a very successful future for the venture.
